Your eBook already teaches "Feeling S.A.F.E" — resilience and shifting your mood. This goes deeper into what families need today: anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicide and eating disorders — handled gently, safely and hopefully. Distress is not a life sentence; with help, young people get through it.

What to look for, and what to do

FOUNDATION
Feelings & resilience
Big emotions are normal. Ties to S.A.F.E: confidence, awareness, focus, expectation. One trusted adult dramatically improves a child's outcomes.
SIGNS
Anxiety & depression
Worry, avoidance, tummy aches, school refusal; ongoing sadness, withdrawal, "I'm worthless". Common & treatable — early help works.
HOW TO RESPOND
Self-harm
A way of coping — not always suicidal, but they need support. Say: "I've noticed you're having a hard time. I'm here, and I'm not angry." Don't punish or shame.
THE TOUGH ONE
Suicide
Ask directly: "Are you thinking about suicide?" — it doesn't plant the idea. Listen, don't leave them alone, build a safety plan, get help. 000 if at immediate risk.
BODY IMAGE
Eating disorders
Preoccupation with food/weight, secret eating, over-exercising. Serious & treatable — not vanity. Butterfly Foundation 1800 33 4673.
EVERYDAY
Sleep, screens & mood
Late screen use hits mood & anxiety. Phones out of bedrooms. (A bridge to our Cyber Safety pillar.)
FOR FAMILIES
Supporting a young person
Open the conversation, listen without fixing, validate, stay connected. You don't need the answers — notice, care, connect.
FOR YOU
Looking after carers
Supporting someone who's struggling is exhausting — you matter too. Wellways, SANE forums, Beyond Blue, your GP. You can't pour from an empty cup.
📰 How we present this safely (Mindframe)
Every page here shows help numbers first · never describes method or means · uses hopeful, non-stigmatising language ("died by suicide", not "committed") · frames warning signs as a prompt to connect, not predict. A Quick-Exit button appears on sensitive pages (it leaves fast but doesn't clear history).
